Why You Always Allow Yourself Extra Time
by Ryan Underwood
At the beginning of my career at Spectrum, many of my clients were homebuilders and realtors. Typically, we would provide turn-key service for afternoon luncheons at model homes throughout the Houston area. We would provide food, beverage, entertainment, décor, and just about anything else our client needed.
Every once in a while we would facilitate homebuilder events of a more unique nature. One such occasion was a building demolition in League City. Our client invited city officials, realtors, and the general public to view the demolition of a six-story building that was in the middle of open field and the future housing development.
In addition to a Continental Breakfast and an assortment of beverages, Spectrum provided tents, bleachers, tables, chairs, and a PA System for the event. All of the client’s needs had been addressed and we were ready to go; or so we thought.
With the event beginning at 9:00am on Saturday morning, our event production staff was on site at 6:45am to begin setting up the breakfast buffet and taking care of any last minute items.
At 7:00am I received a phone call from the Production Manager. The client didn’t have power for the PA system. During our initial site visit, the client assured us that they would have the power needs covered; that wasn’t the case.
I immediately called Ruben, our VP of Operations, to see if someone could meet at the warehouse to load up a generator in one of our trucks so I could get to the site ASAP.
Oscar met me at the warehouse, we loaded up the generator, and left the warehouse at around 7:45am.
We arrived at 8:30am, got the PA System hooked up and the generator running with about 15 minutes to spare. For those of you not familiar with the area, we are located in The Woodlands; about an hour and 5 minutes from the site. I won’t say how fast I was driving, but I’m glad we didn’t see any State Troopers along the way.
Needless to say, our client was very relieved and happy that we were able to “fix” the situation on such short notice. Our Production Team’s early arrival allowed for us to make things right for our client.
